I'm very glad to have this place, a place where I can find all of you should we all wind up banned from CC.
I'm going to check in here more often to see if anyone has posted.

It's a good thing too, because here I am...

I still wanna know where the ban button is in case I should ever have to use it!

I think only the Admin can ban people and manage registrations.

antiantiAmericans is the admin, I think. I can't remember exactly.

Well, if anyone steps down, I'll gladly take the reins. Not that I'm looking to do so, but it's the honorable thing to do. We need to take this bull by the horns any way that we can!

I believe when I set it up, I made everybody admin.

I finally found the Admin buttons. Hey, just for poops and giggles, let's invite CJ, BH, Solo, Swim, TBA and Noctural here, so I can ban their ass the minute they get here!

Where are the admin controls? I've only seen the moderator controls at the bottom of the threads.

Until Pat Riot or someone else new shows up, I don't think that we have much to worry about. But I know what you're wondering...where the heck is the "approve new member" button, anyway?

Hey Brent...good to see you, man! Hey, did you hear that Paul and Ben got banned at Coverts? Paul is like you, gone for good, and unless I'm mistaken, this is Ben's first.

Annie...that leaves just you and me and Pat Riot to get our first banning. Are ya up for it?

Oh...did ya also hear? CJ got banned, too! I believe thqat this was his last outing as well.

Anyhow, I'm enjoying my time away from posting, so I'll probably be far less involved here than you're all used to seeing. It is really, really great to be in contact with all of you fine people again.

So, I got banned there because after your banning, I just didn't care about what I was saying anymore on that board. I felt that I had played nice long enough on that board and it didn't really matter.

At one point, which is probably the statement that got me banned, I said that anyone who supports the 'war' in Afghanistan is supporting Obama and hates the troops. I got a pretty nasty warning from Dave stating that he didn't know what bug crawled up my ass (his words), but I needed to calm down. I guess that wasn't what people wanted to hear.

cjelephant probably got banned because I complained about his insults. At one point he called me a 'cut and paste intellectual' and was generally derisive all around. I pointed out to the mods that for some reason, it was OK for him to call all of us Socialists for not supporting the GOP but it wasn't OK for me to call everyone Obama supporters for supporting the war and it's lack of effort from Obama.

In any case, after I got the banning message, which didn't indicate whether or not it was temporary, I sent an e-mail to Dave expressing my discontent with that forum and how I had been treated there by posters and moderators and ultimately that I wasn't coming back. I don't think he'll lift the ban.

As for the administration of this site, antiantiAmericans (using the 'admin' account) and myself are the only two administrators here right now. Pretty much everyone except for Doc Trock is a moderator right now. If anyone doesn't want to be a moderator, you may be able to unsubscribe from it. Or just let us know. I admit I am a bit apprehensive about letting more than 2 or 3 people be site administrators (who have the power of the ban) only because that's something that probably should be reserved for a select few. I also think that the number of moderators is decent enough as well, considering that most of the people who are mods here would be actively engaged in the discussions here.

Doc, if you'd like to be a mod, let me know and I'll gladly upgrade you. I may not be able to get to it until later today, however, because things got a little busy here at work.

Also, if you folks want to list some of the rules via PM so we can establish that as we bring in new posters, go ahead and present some suggestions. Be specific and keep it simple. As long as there are simple and specific rules in place, nobody will think that a banned poster was treated unfairly (well, none of that poster's close friends anyway).

To answer yhour first qestion...all that you need to do is unsubcribe from that group.

And now, for the second question...

It looks like you and IT were starting a good basis last night on the "Anyway" thread. I think that before we invite more people to the forum, we should have a "So, what will be the rules here?" thread, and maybe split the discussion off from that discussion. It's a good start, but we need more imput.

As anxious as I am to get new members in here, I think that we should solidify what or rules are, post them, and they'll be in place on day one when the new arrivals do eventfully come. Just like the first day of third grade, only now, instead of being the students, we're the teachers!

But on the other hand...

Frankly, I don't want a whole bunch of rules, just common sense. I don't want this place to turn into a Libertarian version of "DaveHolleyandCharyandTatulip Land". We do need a FEW rules, just not gobs and gobs of them.

Oh, and Swifty...I take it from what you said earlier, that only administrators can approve new members as well as ban them, right? So...that being the case, I should direct Pat Riot's application to either you or AAA, then. I'll PM him over at Coverts again and let him know what's up.

Looks like the rules can be built into the forum itself, along with a FAQ.

As for the emoticons, I can add more, but I'll need picture references to do so.

That's fine. You are not a moderator right now, just a regular poster.

Moderators do not have the ability to ban posters right now, but I can activate that power, if the need arises. Given that we're fairly small right now, I don't think that will be needed until later.

As a moderator, as long as you regular post in the sections you moderate, you should be fine. The problem with the *other* forum was that the moderators largely stayed out of the Main section and we ended up with tattulip and Charybdis moderating that forum.

Well, CJ's account is no longer accessable, let me clairify that.

And Ed, I'm honored that you nominate me to be a Admin, but I will only accept if and ONLY if AAA and/or Swifty deem it necessary. As it is, I'm a moderator. I guess that the only difference is Admins can ban and accept members. I can still lock, move, split and merge threads. All earlier joking aside, I'm not too keen on banning people...I want people to feel that they can say whatever they want as long as it's withinn good taste. I want to bring good people INTO this forum, not bannish them to Kingdom Come. I only see banning as a VERY last resort. Had I been a mod at Coverts, NOBODY here would have ever been banned! I'm not sure if a mod can overide another mod's banning, but I would have done so, if I had the power to have done so.

On the other hand, I wish that I did have the authority to accept new members, but it's no biggie...just a thought!
